I've always hated the word cheap, it just sounds so...well cheap. Cheap web hosting is no exception, the word cheap
we often affiliate with lower quality, not as good. Now Affordable, we could use that word becuase really that's what we're
looking for isn't it? Something that does the job, meets our expectations as a web hosting provider but doesn't break the bank.
So lets start there.
There are thousands upon thousands of searches each month at the Big three search engines Google, Yahoo, and MSN of people
looking for Cheap Web Hosting. Do they find what they're looking for? Well who knows because they're basing their findings
on what ever the search engines tell them. To effectively find the web host you're looking for you need:
a.) The knowledge to understand the hosting lingo, and know what you want and need from a provider.
b.) Be reasonably versed in the median price for a web hosting plan with your requirements.
Now armed with both of these items you can go out and find Cheap or Affordable web hosting, because you can gauge it
against the market, and make an educated decision about whether the package has what you need.
So what can be the downfalls for those of us looking for Cheap hosting? Well right off the bat the chances is that if
someone is selling for less money then their competitor they're either starving for business or trying to buy up the market
to later solidify themselves as top providers. If they're starving for business this isn't good since there is the chance
they won't get enough new web hosting clients to stay a float. However if you've caught a new company in the up swing and
their providing accounts at a good price then it could be a great deal. How do you know?
User reviews and directories on sites like The Hosting Hound offer
you a view of what the rest of the world is saying about that provider, and also the chance to easily compare multiple plans
against each other. It's much easier to let someone else do the work for you and round up all the different providers out
there rather then you try to get it all together yourself.
A couple of things you can watch out for are the too good to be true deals. Such as $1.99 hosting for an obscene amount of
bandwidth and space. Chances are this company is overselling their server so there are too many sites on one server. This
can hinder the performance of your site for speed and resources. Also companies offering unlimited bandwidth and space at a very
cheap web hosting price, usually these companies are doing the same thing over selling server space and hoping that most of
the sites on a particular server will not use very much resources.
A good recommendation is Host Gator's Baby plan. The price is right at just
under $10 bucks a month, they have a realistic amount of resources being offered for that price, and for a limited time
they're allowing unlimited domains to be hosted through this one account. So it's like a mini reseller account. Now this
may not be considered cheap web hosting, but it is economical.
