Web Hosting Glossary B

Bandwidth: This is the measurement of how much information your website can transfer each month. Each page of your website is a particular size, with all the text, code, graphics etc. that make up each page. Let's assume that your homepage of your site is 100KB (this is kinda large but it's just for example purposes). So everytime a visitor comes to your site and views your homepage you use up 100KB of bandwidth. so you may or maynot know that 1 MB is 1024 KB, so for simplicity sake we'll say every 10 views of your homepages uses 1 MB of bandwidth, and so on and so on. So if you have 1 GB of Bandwidth (sometimes reffered to as transfer as well) per month, this means you can transfer upto 1024 MB or 1GB of data each month for that website.

Browser: A browser is the program people use to surf the net. Most common one known would be Internet Exporer, likely followed by Netscape. Some other popular browsers are Firefox, Safari (for MAC only), Lynx, and many others. However for most internet users, the nice button and graphical interface of browsers like Internet Explorer, and Netscape make them most popular.
